XS/S-1930’s Carolyn Shop for Meis Bros Inc. Rayon 2-piece set
$286.00
A truly amazing 1930’s to early 1940’s 2-piece set by Carolyn Shop for Meis Bros of Danville, IL with jet or glass beaded trim and spotted details on the blouse. Both the dress and the blouse have snap and hook closure at the left waist. The keyhole neckline closes with a hook at the top. The underdress has a tulle bodice and is connected at the waist to the rayon skirt. The dress is missing it’s original belt, so I attached a buckle that I had that is also 1930’s/40’s. It’s attached to a ribbon for the photos, but it will be included with the dress!
A little history: Meis bros was a top-notch department that opened in 1897 in Danville, IL and held a prominent place in Danville society until the 1960’s when clothing started to become more casual. Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything on “Carolyn shop”, but it seems as though it was a line carried within the department store.
Condition: excellent condition with some very faint spots on the blouse, and some missing beads here and there in the trim. The missing beads are well hidden luckily, but I did take some close ups. There are a few tiny holes in the netting of the underdress. Damage is noted in the last photo!
Measurements:
Bust suited for 30-36”
Waist up to 28”
Hips up to 36” with some stretch
Blouse length taken flat 22”
Underdress length taken flat 48”
Shoulder seam to seam: 13.5”
