XS-S— 1860’s Blue-Gray Silk Taffeta Bodice with Oversized Bishop Sleeves
$300.00
An incredible example of 1860’s fashion made with a beautiful shade of blue-gray silk taffeta. The sleeves are the showstopper of course, complete with rows of pintucks at each bicep and fitted cuffs. The bodice has the classic sloped shoulder look of the 1860’s, and decorative pintucks at the chest. The bodice has brass closures up the front, and there is a partial muslin lining. The bodice appears to have been sewn with a treadle machine, which were becoming a common household item in the 1860’s.
Condition: excellent condition for its age with a few small scattered stains and pinholes. The bodice does appear to be partially unfinished with some of the basting stitches still intact along the interior. My guess is that the original seamstress would have added some internal stays for structure.
Measurements:
Bust up to 35”
Waist up to 24” (worn with waist hook open in the photos)
About 16.5-17” shoulders
14” shoulder opening
8” cuff opening
16” shoulder to waist
Shown on 5’5” model, 35 bust, 28 waist
